We had been waiting for hours
قبلاً در مورد افعال، نکات گرامری زیادی یاد گرفتیم و مثالهایی هم برای بعضی از افعال دیده‌ایم.
“We had been waiting for hours.”
کسی که به تدریج زبانش بهتر می‌شود، این قواعدی که یاد گرفته است با افعال بیشتری مواجه خواهد شد یا به کار خواهد برد.
“I had been working on the project for over a year.”
“I didn’t need so much, because I’d been saving money for a few months.”
پس یادگیری افعال بیشتر و استفاده از آنها در ساختارهای آشنا، بخشی از مسیر تسلط ما بر گرامر است. برای مثال ما قبلاً گذشته کامل را یاد گرفته‌ایم. الان افعال be و live و study را می‌خواهیم در این زمان (گذشته کامل) به کار ببریم.
“She __ (be) a teacher for ten years.”
“They __ (live) in the same house for their entire lives.”
“He __ (study) for the exam all night.”
جواب باید به این صورت باشد:
“She had been a teacher for ten years.”
“They had been living in the same house for their entire lives.”
“He had been studying for the exam all night.”
بسیاری از کلماتی که ما در حال یادگیری آن هستیم، در قواعد گرامری و ساختارهای آشنا استفاده می‌شود. به این ترتیب هم آن کلمات را در قالب یک ساختار آشنا بهتر یاد می‌گیریم، هم آن ساختار گرامری را با این کلمه جدید بیشتر تمرین می‌کنیم.

The children had been playing in the yard when it started raining.
We had been traveling for several days before we reached our destination.

The general structure of the past perfect continuous tense is:
`Subject + had + been + verb (present participle)`.
This tense describes an action or event that started in the past, continued for some time, and was still in progress before another specified time in the past.
I had been waiting for her call the whole evening.
He had been waiting for us to arrive for ten minutes.
I had been doing my homework for two hours.
We had been walking for half an hour before we arrived at the tran station.
I had been wadting my time until I made a friendship with her
He has been studying hard for months.
He had been piling money for years
