old Persian poem
ما قبلاً صفت‌ها را یاد گرفتیم.
He’s a big guy.
He was a big guy, like me?
چنین صفاتی را می‌توانیم کنار هم بیاوریم:
He’s a big guy. A big black guy.
به تدریج که چنین صفاتی کنار هم می‌بینیم، متوجه می‌شویم که ترتیب آنها مهم است. برای مثال ترکیب black big را جایی نمی‌شنویم اما big black رایج است.
He’s a big fat guy with a bald head.
البته برای ترتیب صفات، قواعدی هم وجود دارد:
اما دانستن آنها ضرورتی ندارد. بهترین راه برای تسلط بر چنین موضوعاتی، شنیدن و خواندن زیاد است. در این صورت به صورت حسی می‌دانیم که باید ترتیب درست صفات چگونه باشد.
در اصل بهتر است یک کاما (comma) قبل از صفت بعدی آورده شود:
It was the biggest TV in the bazaar, with its huge ,black screen.
گاهی یک کلمه ممکن است اسم باشد، گاهی صفت.
Are you fluent in old Persian?
اینجا Persian (که در اصل منظور زبان Persian است) یک اسم است و old صفت. اما ممکن است Persian صفت باشد؛ مثلاً برای Poem یا Gulf.
