قبلاً سوالات منفی و سوالات کوتاه را یاد گرفته‌ایم.
قرار است با دیدن چند مثال، به یکی از کاربردهای این دو قاعده، توجه کنیم.

ویدئوی دوم را هم نگاه کنید و به سوال که مطرح می‌شود توجه کنید:

یکی از شیوه‌های رایج پرسیدن نظر دیگران، استفاده از فعل منفی به این شکل است.
Don’t you think it’s fun?
با پرسیدن چنین سوالی، دنبال تایید و موافقت طرف مقابل هستیم.
Aren’t you excited about it?
Can’t you go with your parents some time and with your friends later?
همانطور که می‌بینید، تا حدودی انتظار داریم که طرح مقابل به این سوال پاسخ مثبت بدهد.
گاهی هم با پرسیدن این سوال، داریم درستی چیزی را چک می‌کنیم:

هنگام خواندن جملات زیر، می‌توانید متوجه چنین قصدی در گوینده این جملات باشید؟

به همین ترتیب، می‌توان از سوالات کوتاه یا Tag question هم استفاده کرد:
You love books, don’t you?
You’re free on Saturday , aren’t you?
I think it would be fantastic, wouldn’t it?
