می‌توان از ‘would’ برای صحبت در مورد آینده از یک نقطه در گذشته استفاده کرد. این ساختار برای بیان آینده‌ای که از دید گذشته پیش‌بینی شده بود، استفاده می‌شود.
“I knew it would be worth the effort.”
“As I saw the advert, I knew it would be a lovely birthday present.”
پس در اینجا از ‘would’ برای بیان پیش‌بینی‌ها یا انتظارهایی که در گذشته درباره آینده داشتیم، استفاده می‌شود.
“I’ve just bought a new dress, and a beautiful black T-shirt. When I saw them, I thought they would be great for tonight’s party.”
“We thought that the film would be horrible because of the title but when the film started, the story was beautiful and Mauricio and I liked it a lot.”
این ساختار زمانی استفاده می‌شود که بخواهیم درباره چیزی که در گذشته فکر می‌کردیم در آینده رخ می‌دهد، صحبت کنیم.
