در نوشته قبل، درباره تلفظ ed در آخر فعل گذشته ساده صحبت کردیم و گفتیم که
در صورتیکه یک فعل با صامت بی‌صدا پایان یابد، ed آخر را t تلفظ می‌کنیم.
اگر برای فعلهایی که به t ختم می‌شوند، قاعده بالا را رعایت کنیم، تلفظ آنها سخت خواهد شد. برای مثال lifted را باید به صورت liftet تلفظ کنیم. بنابراین در افعالی که به t ختم می‌شوند، ed همان d تلفظ می‌شود؛ نه t.
